Post-conference workshop 1

Workshop 1: Enhancing Collaboration among Marine Research Organizations in the Red Sea led by Dr. Xabier Irigoyen @ Auditorium Between Building 2&3, Room 0215

Overview:

The vibrant and ecologically diverse ecosystem of the Red Sea presents a unique opportunity for marine researchers to explore its mysteries and contribute to its conservation. From a time when King Abdulaziz University was the only research institute on the Saudi Red Sea shore, the number of research institutes is now growing fast. Therefore, collaboration among marine research organizations becomes crucial for effective understanding, conservation, and sustainable management.

Profiting from the ICMERS conference, we invite you to participate in a dynamic and collaborative workshop focused on fostering connections, sharing objectives, and charting pathways for enhanced cooperation among marine research institutions operating in the Red Sea region.

Workshop Objectives:

Promote Collaboration: Facilitate networking and collaboration opportunities among marine research organizations, enabling the exchange of ideas, resources, and expertise.

Data Sharing: Explore strategies for sharing research data and findings, while addressing challenges related to data accessibility, standards, and ethical considerations.

Capacity Building: Identify opportunities for capacity-building initiatives, skill-sharing, and training programs that can strengthen the capabilities of marine researchers in the region.

Workshop agenda

1. Presentation of the strategic plans: representatives of each institute will present the  relevant aspects of their strategic plan and the main research lines of their institute.

2. Discussions on collaboration opportunities: Identify subjects or projects for collaboration.

3. Discussion on resources: Identify potential mechanisms to share resources such as boat, sea-going or laboratory equipment.

4. Discussion on potential for data sharing: Identify the data storage and sharing policies and explore potential for data sharing and common databases.
